Allergy Injections

Student Health Services (SHS) administers allergy injections to students under the direction of their allergist. Allergy Injections are administered by appointment only. Student Health Services does not perform initial allergy testing or administer the initial allergy serum at the start of desensitization.

New Allergy Patients
- It is the student’s responsibility to contact Student Health Services to initiate appointments to establish allergy injections in office.
- The SHS Allergy Injection Guidelines and Protocols form must be reviewed and signed by the prescribing allergist. Completed form should then be faxed by allergist office to SHS (fax #: 410-548-4101). This must be done prior to scheduling your allergy appointments with SHS.
- It is the student’s responsibility to provide the following to SHS upon arriving to campus:
  - Instructions from prescribing allergist that clearly designate serum to be used, dosages, and injection intervals.
  - A copy of the allergy injection log sheet with the most recent injection information.
  - Allergy serums, which will be stored in a refrigerator at SHS.
- Student should call SHS to schedule Initial Allergy Appointment with a provider (nurse practitioner).
  - Subsequent appointments may be set up with office RN. SHS will schedule these appointments after the initial appointment.
- SHS is staffed with nurse practitioners. We do not have physicians in office. If prescribing allergist requires a physician to be present during allergy injections, student will not be able to receive allergy injections at SHS.

Returning Allergy Patients
- The SHS Allergy Injection Guidelines and Protocols form must be reviewed and signed by prescribing allergist each year, before the start of fall semester. This form should be faxed by allergist office to SHS (fax: 410-548-4101).
- Student should drop off serums and allergy injection log sheet (with the most recent injection information) to SHS upon arrival to campus and schedule allergy injection appointment at this time.
