Teaching Philosophy
My goal as a teacher is for students to learn more about themselves and to build confidence so that, in whatever situation they find themselves, they can trust in their ability to deliver their best work. I provide them with a set of skills, both technical and conceptual, to help them achieve their goals, along with the support needed to make bold, deliberate moves in both life and art.
I believe an art education develops students into creative problem-solvers and critical thinkers who can succeed in all areas of life after graduation. I emphasize teaching traditional craft skills in glass, metal, and wood, while also introducing new technologies such as 3D printing, CNC milling, waterjet cutting, sound, and video. I encourage dialogue between sculpture, design, and craft, helping students understand how these disciplines inform and expand one another.
