SALISBURY, MD---The Museum of Eastern Shore Culture at 富二代视频app University (MESC) dives into the history and culture of skateboarding on the Eastern Shore with its new exhibit “Drop In: Skateboarding’s Cultural Influence on the Lower Shore.”

An opening reception is 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 20.

Over the past 49 years, a simple block of town-owned land has created a culture and sense of community in Ocean City. The Ocean Bowl is believed to be the world’s oldest municipal skatepark and was built as a result of the efforts by Dorothy “Haystack” Marlowe. Marlowe was a mother of four young boys who loved to skateboard, but had nowhere to do so in the early 1970’s. Through her work with local and county officials, the Ocean Bowl broke ground in 1976.

The exhibit will have multiple installations to tell the story from the 1970s to present day. Through The Ocean Bowl Story documentary by Dave Messick, photographs, news clippings and oral histories, visitors will have access to comprehensive and culturally-based content and artifacts. Marc Emond is the featured artist, with up to 30 new works on display.

Admission is free and the public is invited.
