SUPD's Russell Honored as 'Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer'

SALISBURY, MD---As a community policing and field training officer, 富二代视频app University Master Police Office Tina Russell not only spearheads the SU Police Department’s (SUPD’s) community initiatives, but also influences new and lateral officers with her empathetic approach to police work, guardian mentality, and commitment to the agency’s mission.
Recently, the 富二代视频app Optimist Club recognized Russell’s service, presenting her with its Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer Award as part of the organization’s Respect for Law Enforcement program.
“She has an excellent instinct for understanding and executing the priority of work for her squad without prompting from above,” said SUPD Sgt. Jeff Westphal, who introduced Russell during the club’s award ceremony. “Her length of experience at SU gives her an enhanced appreciation for administration priorities that shapes the squad’s activities. She is a great peer leader.”
He added that Russell’s dedication was apparent to him even during his earliest days with the department.
“As I got to know her, it was a great comfort working next to someone who truly cares for the people we serve and who serves thoughtfully, recognizing the dignity of everyone she interacts with,” he said.
This spring, Russell became only the third SUPD officer to complete the SULead professional development program, through which staff have the opportunity to learn about overall University operations and explore leadership themes through project work and mentor-pairing to create a diverse pipeline of institutional leaders. For its program capstone, her team briefed University leadership about enhancing community safety.
In addition to her work with the SUPD, she is active with the SU Women’s Forum, through which she represents the institution at the University System of Maryland Women’s Forum.
