Our police officers are State certified in accordance with Article 41, Section 4-201 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and have all the same powers and authority as any other sworn police officer in Maryland; each officer is empowered by State law to make arrests, investigate crimes, and carry firearms. Furthermore, the University Police Department is the primary agency responsible for policing property owned, operated, leased by, or under the control of ¸»¶þ´úÊÓƵapp University.

Tasks Include:

• Engaging in Community Policing techniques with campus members;
• Providing thorough criminal and traffic investigations;
• Internal and external collaboration with community stakeholders; and
• Enhancing the professionalism of officers through training and education.

Upon employment, applicants must have completed, or be eligible to complete, entrance‑level training at an approved police academy, as required for certification by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC).

Minimum Requirements:

• United States Citizen;
• 21 years of age or older;
• High school graduate or have successfully completed the G.E.D. examination;
• Possess a valid Driver’s license;
• Pass a physical & psychological examination;
• Pass a polygraph examination and undergo a complete background investigation.

A Security Guard performs high visibility patrol to enhance campus security.

Responsibilities Include:

• Stationed or roaming patrol of campus
• Reporting information to SU Police regarding suspicious or criminal activity
• Provides customer service
• Monitor video surveillance system
• Attends to security needs of the campus community.
• Provides security during assignments at SU special and sporting events
• Climbing stairs, and walking and standing for long periods of time

Administrative positions at the ¸»¶þ´úÊÓƵapp University Police Department are office-civilian roles that provide essential support to the daily department operations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform clerical and billing tasks, manage records, and support daily office operations
• Process and release crime reports in accordance with department policy
• Assist with data management, statistics, and documentation for accreditation compliance

  *Fingerprint Services, including scheduling appointments, verifying required documentation, checking preregistration forms, and assisting customers with Livescan fingerprint procedures

  *Parking Services, including permit processing, customer service, citation administration, and assisting campus visitors with parking needs
